I was not sorry to see the back of January, what is it about the whole month being so depressing?! It’s all doom and gloom in the media too, diets, dry January, tightening those purse strings post Christmas. So I am welcoming in February for a fresh start!
This week I finally purchased one of my dream beauty buys – the Mason Pearson hairbrush. It has literally been on the ‘Christmas List’ for years, and this year my dear mother decided to gift me some money so I could buy one myself. I think she felt it was far too much to spend on a brush so couldn’t quite do it herself, she made some excuse and handed over the cash…. and yes it is very expensive for a hairbrush… do I think its worth it? Hard to tell really. It does make brushing your hair feel like such a luxury though. And I have a lot of hair so I have to brush it regularly. It also looks very pretty on the dressing table. I went for nylon and natural bristle, the website has a clever little tool that lets you put all your hair details in and then up pops their recommendations. I also went for the largest, far quicker brush-time with this mane.
If you buy one online here they are offering 25% off until Monday!
Second on (what I am now calling) the list of guilt… a very reasonable H&M cardigan. This is from the H&M basic collection and cost £14.99. Anyone that has read past posts and followed my IG will know I am obsessed with leopard print so when I spotted this simple cardigan on route to the changing room I had to make a quick pit-stop and grab my size. I am afraid I have searched online and they don’t have it but if you head to the Basic range in your closest store hopefully it will be in stock. I have also included an alternative here that is gorgeous and this amazing cardigan I didn’t even see in store but am now coveting!
So I left everything else in the changing room and came home with just this feeling smug that I hadn’t spent too much money.
My husband and I had discussed Valentines and to be honest we don’t really buy into it, I think after Christmas and then my birthday is in January, February we are done with gifts and trying to keep those purse strings closed. But after a bit of a rough few months health wise in our family he thought I deserved a treat and within seconds (of course) I knew what I wanted… a simple gold bangle. And today I found the perfect one! In a little local jewellers. It is beautiful and I will make sure I post it on IG next week… if I am allowed to wear it pre-Valentines…eeek.
And there it is… the list of guilt.
Did you buy anything new this week? Any finds you want to share?
Thank you for reading…
I am starting a new Friday ritual in which I am going to share with you my weekly buys. Embarrassing to admit it is very rare that a week goes by in which I don’t shop… whoops. So this week I bought two amazingly soft and just the right bagginess, plus they turn at the sleeves perfectly – Breton stripe tops, from H&M. I have included the link here but they’ve sold out of a lot online, in store head to the L.O.G.G. section and they’re hidden away in there. I bought white with navy stripes and navy with a white stripe. Before Christmas I bought a Saint James breton top on sale but had to return it as it was just too baggy so finding these I was delighted… they are just £12.99!
The third of the weeks purchases was a slightly higher price tag but I am hoping they’ll be a classic staple in my wardrobe – these gorgeous black leather boots from &OtherStories. They have a slight look of the Isabel beauties I have been obsessing over, and an Acne feel to them. My delivery is due today and super excited. Will take a snap for IG when they get here. If you sign up to their newsletter you get a 10% discount…. every little helps!
And finally – I also treated myself to a little pot of Charlotte Tilbury magic – the eye cream. I have tried the magic face cream before and been tempted but I have so many at home I need to work my way through first I thought I would try the eye cream first and see how I go. Initial thoughts are very positive but time will tell. For now I am enjoying the beautiful packaging on my side cabinet in the bedroom.
And that is my weekly shopping round up!
Any great buys you’ve scooped this week? Love to hear from you.
It’s a cliche but January is usually the time I reassess my health habits and this includes attending those gym classes I have been putting off throughout December as I definitely over-indulge on the wine and chocolate.
For me it’s far less about being ‘skinny’ than being healthy and strong. When I am working out I am generally a happier person. I have more energy, make healthier choices with my food, sleep better and my clothes certainly fit better. After Decembers fun my skinny jeans are feeling rather tight!
So to make it more fun I like to buy a few new pieces to wear in the gym, and at the moment the highstreet in full of amazing workout gear for great prices. I bought these H&M leggings and cannot wait to wear them with my black Nike roshe runs. I also wanted to introduce you to one of my favourite swimwear brands which also does incredible workout gear. Seriously stylish and super sexy gym tights and tops. I have included my favourite here but check out the website for the full collection is it divine and will make even the biggest gym-phobe want to hit the treadmill!
And here is a round-up of my favourite inspo shots to help get you in the mood for working out. They say a Summer body is made in Winter so here goes and here’s to stylish workouts all round!
Love to hear your get-fit tips and of any great work-out gear you know of…
As a Summer girl through and through I feel naked without a tan, not a just stepped off the beach tan, but a glow, enough to make my lack of sleep and gin soaked skin look more alive. I have been a huge fan of the Vita Liberata body tan for months now following an Instagram tip-off from the amazing Allesandra Steinherr. If you don’t follow her already you really should, she is the beauty gospel and has so many amazing hints and tips with her #askalex here is her website. So she has also been praising the Sisley hydrating facial self tan but with such a hefty price tag I couldn’t justify it. Then, on a grey and dreary Wednesday morning, a bag of marmite rice cakes flung across the beauty hall floor in the midst of a tantrum (toddler not me) I caved and bought it. But boy am I glad I did!
I have very dehydrated skin and am constantly, perhaps to its detriment, piling on masks and night creams so if I am using a cream in the day, even for self-tan it needs to be hydrating and this is beautifully hydrating. My skin feels soft and looks plumper. The tan is subtle and sun-kissed and no nasty smell. You only need to use twice a week, across your whole face and down your neck. Sisley describes it as beautifying your complexion and perfecting your skin. My skin doesn’t look perfect, more ‘beautiful’ perhaps, but naturally tanned yes. The tan is even, and lasts even using my Clarisonic each evening.
I will be monitoring how long one bottle lasts before I commit to re-purchasing but I hope it lasts… this is one product I want to keep in my little beauty arsenal!
Do you have any great winter skin tips? Love to hear them and your comments on the post thank you… Vx
