Playing it Down

Playing it Down

On a Friday I would usually write what I’ve been calling my ‘weekly confession’, but as the blog has evolved I have started sharing my purchases on the blog shop that day – hopefully making it much easier for you to shop my favourites at any time rather than that particular week. But this does leave me with a bit of a gaping hole in my blogging schedule…

So this Friday I thought I would take a look back at the week, and see what you’ve liked the most… the Zara leopard skirt.

I wore the skirt with my Converse high tops and Bella Freud jumper, dressing it down to create a week-day casual look that works as well for the playground as it does running around town for meetings. This is one of my favourite ways to style – taking an otherwise smart piece and playing it down with every-day basics. A velvet dress – pair with a denim jacket and your favourite trainers for the perfect casual cool look. Have a jumpsuit you only get to wear every few months on a rare night out? Tie a shirt around your waist, roll up the ankles and wear with a pair of slides to give it new day-time life. Anything silk you’d normally keep for best, mix it with something knit to play with texture and then pair with a harder fabric such as denim or leather to give it a day feel. And it works both ways – the casual baggy white t-shirt will look incredible with a mini and heels in the evening. You’ll be surprised how many outfit options you have as soon as you start mixing and matching.

Forget the rules, have fun, mix and match… nothing is just for night … or just for day.
